A Winner and a Weekend

We have a winner! Laura Friesen gets the Amazon gift card.:) But thank you so much to everyone who commented during the last two weeks – it’s always fun to hear from other people, and I loved reading about what you’re all enjoying right now! I hope the sharing of ideas added a little bit of value to your life.

Sometimes I find it hard to share favourites – everybody is unique, and we all have our own passions and interests. When I talk about mine, it can be easy to think, “But why would anyone actually care about my little life, and the way we do things in our home?” And yet I’m always interested in what other people are doing, so why not?!

And then I go out on a limb, and share a bit of myself, only to have doubt creep in – what if people take it the wrong way, and think I’m saying everyone should do it my way? Or what if I share something I’m trying, only to discover later on that I’m completely on the wrong track?

So sometimes I choose to stay quiet, because it’s easiest. But I have a friend who says, “Share the keys! You might be holding a key of wisdom that someone else needs, and if you don’t share what you know, they won’t get the key they’ve been waiting for!”

Every time I think of the keys, I choose to share what I’ve got, however small it might be, because it seems like there’s not a lot in this world we’ve been given just to hang onto, and keep for ourselves.

So thank you for showing up here, and sharing the keys!:) Thanks to everyone who took the time to spread a little bit of joy and knowledge around. And maybe sharing online is just not your thing, and that’s totally okay. I’m pretty sure you’ll get other opportunities to share what you know and love, and you’ll keep passing on the keys, too.

I hope you all had a great weekend! We had the best kind – a little bit of work, lots of playing and relaxing, and hanging out with friends.

I hope your weekend left you feeling refreshed, and ready for another beautiful week!

A Winner, and Some Weekend Favorites!

Thanks so much for all the suggestions of new favorites to try, everyone! I loved reading all of the comments about what you’ve been enjoying lately!

The winner of the draw is Pam Koop! Based on all the interest that’s been expressed in the book, Switch on Your Brain, I decided to give that book away as a prize. Thanks to everyone who participated!

And while I’m here, I have a few photos from the weekend to share.

We were at my parents’ cabin for a cold, stormy weekend. The power was out for most of our time there, but it was a very relaxing time!:) We were just about to enjoy some fun on the water when the storm came in – fast!

35 Days of Favorites Winner!

Today is a good day.

I’m wearing a new pair of shorts. I accomplished the impossible yesterday, and found a pair that actually fit just the way I want them to. (Actually, I should probably give the credit to my friend Sarah, who will be my personal shopper from now on.)

I’m eating chips for breakfast. (That’s for all of you who think I’m too healthy.) My green smoothie just wasn’t filling me up enough!

I’m packing up for the cabin, and we’re celebrating my birthday there this weekend.

A friend I haven’t seen in years is visiting Manitoba, and is coming over this afternoon.

And…we’re finished 35 Days of Favorites! I get to announce a winner, and then we can return to normal blogging, which I’m looking forward to.

So. I’m pretty excited about today’s winner, because she really, really deserves to be the winner! She has entered every contest I’ve ever had on this blog, and has written the most comments for Days of Favorites, both this year and last year.

She is also a continual source of encouragement to me, both with blogging, and many other things in my life, so it’s fun to be able to give her a prize! 🙂 (Although I would have fun giving any of you a prize!)

The random number generator has decided that Chantelle Falk is this year’s winner!

Thanks so much for all of your comments, Chantelle! I’ll be getting your prize to you soon!

And thanks to everybody else for all of your kind words, lovely comments, and birthday wishes.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I’ll see you on Monday. Time for me to go party.

Wrapping Up “34 Days of Favorites”, and Announcing a Winner!

Well, now.

34 posts is a lot of posts! I feel like I’ve had much to say in the last month and a half. One would think I might have run out of things to say, but wait! There’s more!

I actually have a list of concluding thoughts.

Yes, a list.

1) You are all amazing.

Seriously. I feel so blessed to have you reading my blog. I’ve been posting about twice as often as usual, and yet people just kept showing up, day after day. And the comments! Oh, guys, I feel like we have some community going on here! I love it.

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you better, and have loved trying your suggestions. It’s been so much fun.

But….

2) I am so ready to return to my normal blogging schedule!

When I decided to stop blogging five days a week, and only blog on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, it was a really good decision!

The last month and a half has confirmed that for me. Blogging three times a week allows me to keep my life in balance.

3) I’m ready to write about other topics!

I was having a long-overdue conversation on the phone with a dear friend the other night, and she said, “I read your blog, and I think, ‘Oh, Kendra has the perfect life!!'”

And I thought, “Oh no!! This whole thing has failed miserably!”

It was never my intent to make it sound as though my life is perfect. I just wanted to share a bunch of things making my life happy right now.

That doesn’t mean my life is always happy.

Most of the time, I think I’m pretty honest and open on my blog. But over the last 34 posts, I’ve been writing about my favorites. Things are bound to sound pretty positive, all the time. It wasn’t a series called “34 Days of Crappy Things Happening in Kendra’s Life”. Thank goodness! Who would want to read that?!

And really, if I had to choose between sounding too positive, or too negative, I would go with positive every time. This last year has been all about choosing a good attitude, no matter what my circumstances might be.

That doesn’t mean I won’t ever have anything negative to say.

But it does mean that for the most part, I’m going to focus on the good stuff, not in an effort to be fake, but rather, to choose an attitude of thankfulness.

For example.

This is our yard right now:

The weeds are so big, I can hide in them. The girls can’t find me if I’m out in the yard. Kaylia wanders around calling, “Mommy, where are you??”

I’m just a little bit COMPLETELY SICK OF WEEDS!!

But you know what? I also took this picture in our yard.

I think it’s kinda pretty.

To me, it’s proof that you can make anything look good. It’s not fake. It’s just limiting how much of the big picture you take in at once. And I’m learning that in general, it’s usually good to keep it small.

When you keep it small, there is joy in a cup of tea.

A cup of tea does not make my life perfect.

But it makes the moment pretty good.

And life can be about moments, if you choose.

That is what I wish to leave you with, as this series ends. Celebrate the little, simple things. The big stuff gets pretty heavy, for everybody. And sometimes, people can’t share what’s all going on, for various reasons, but it doesn’t mean the big stuff isn’t there.

So keep in mind that everybody has their load to carry, but if we are able to find joy in the small things, we will never run out of joy, no matter what else is going on.

4) And we have a winner!

As I said waaaaaay back at the beginning, there is a prize. Everyone who commented on any of the last 34 posts was entered. I used a Random Number Generator, and you’ll never guess who it randomly selected – my sister, Karla!!

As soon as I saw the results, I thought, “OH, NO!!! She’s not going to like that at all!”

In the past, my sister has purposely not commented on posts involving a prize, so that my other blog readers have a chance to win, instead of her.

My parents will love it. My dad will say something about how it makes him so happy to see sisters supporting each other, or something like that. And it’s true – I do feel very supported by my sister! I love when she comments on my blog.

So Karla’s the winner. And she’s getting a copy of my favorite book of the year, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years. Which works out well, because I don’t actually own a copy of my own, so if I ever want to reread it, I’ll just borrow it from her!!

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved in “34 Days of Favorites”.

And I will see you on Friday! I have A TON of pictures from our summer which I can’t wait to share!

Weekend Favorites: The Fair, a Fix, and Some Housekeeping!

Crazy, fun weekend!

It was the Niverville Fair, and our girls were very excited to experience it for the first time.

And last of all, I need to announce the winner of Heather’s book, Dream Big. Thank you so much for all the thoughts and comments last week. I really loved hearing about where some of you are at with your dreams, and trying to figure out what your purpose is.

So, the proud new owner of Heather’s book is Laurie Twibell!

I wish I could give away copies to all of you! Make sure to check out Heather’s blog for info on her book, and to read her thoughts on dreaming for the future.
