Around Here Right Now

Here’s what we’re up to these days:

1) Baking biscuits

biscuit

This has been my go-to recipe for years! Always love it. (I substitute tapioca starch for corn starch, and millet flour for soy flour.)

2) Listening to this song over and over:

Kaylia keeps asking for it over and over again!

3) Sorting baby clothes!

clothes

Getting so excited to dress a little boy! But I do find myself feeling a bit baffled about the need for so many animals, modes of transportation, and sports paraphernalia when I wonder through the boys’ section. What if our boy doesn’t like animals, won’t drive a car until he’s 16, and gets his athletic ability from his mother instead of his father?

I feel myself gravitating towards plaids and stripes instead….We’ll keep his options open!;)

4) Digging up our yard

For my birthday, my dad’s gift to me was granting one wish – whatever I wanted! At first I didn’t know what to ask for, but it didn’t take me long to think about this project for our backyard:

yard

Ben is wanting to set up a play structure, but our yard is too sloped for him to just put one up without doing some landscaping, which seemed like a ton of work to add to his full schedule. But I told my dad that my greatest wish was for this project to be complete, ease the stress in Ben’s life, and get the play structure up so our girls could enjoy it this summer. My dad arrived with his tractor a few nights later, and got things going. So much faster than Ben doing it with a shovel! But now our beautiful sod is a mess, and we’ve got a ways to go yet!

What are you up to these days?

35 Days of Favorites: Grass!

This post is part of a series called “35 Days of Favorites”, in honor of my 35th birthday. You can read more about the details here

It’s been awhile since I’ve had any grass to enjoy.

When we were living at camp, the grass was thin and patchy. Then, our yard was given a fantastic makeover, and we got some thick, beautiful sod, but we moved away before we had much time to enjoy it, and spent this last summer with a new yard which looked like this:

weeds

(So scary, I know. People kept telling us to mow our weeds, but we ended up just killing them all in the fall.)

Last fall, Ben put sod down in our front yard about 2 seconds before it snowed, and our backyard was done two weeks ago.

grass!

Oh, my goodness! I love grass!!!

Sometimes I lie down on my back in our grass, just because I can. Last night, Ben and I flopped down in our front yard, and just enjoyed sitting on our grass and talking.

Next project is landscaping. I hope I love that as much as the grass….

Do you have a yard to enjoy? Loving any grass or gardening or anything green this spring?
