34 Days of Favorites: Apple Cider Vinegar

Oh, the weirdness of this one! But it’s great for adding variety to my list!

So, Apple Cider Vinegar. It’s basically miraculous. You can use it for all kinds of things.

I bought it last fall because I was having digestive issues. I used to take expensive digestive enzymes to relieve heartburn and stomachaches, but someone suggested trying Apple Cider Vinegar instead. It’s nine bucks a bottle, and lasts a long time. But you have to get the kind that says, “With the Mother”, or else it won’t work. I just mix one teaspoon of it into a glass of water, and drink it before each meal. It has made such a difference.

I also use it instead of conditioner for my hair. One tablespoon mixed into one cup of water, poured into an old conditioner bottle. It stinks, but once it’s rinsed out, I can’t smell it in my hair at all.

But my very favorite use for it is wart removal. What?! I totally didn’t think this would work.

Here’s the deal: A certain member in our family, who will go unmentioned ;), has a wart, which the doctor offered to remove. Given the location of the wart, and the temperament of the patient, it would be very painful and traumatic. The doctor suggested we take a few days to consider when would be the best time to inflict this trauma.

After we got home from the doctor’s office, I went online to see if we had any alternatives. When I googled “natural wart treatment”, apple cider vinegar and baking soda popped up. You make a paste, put a band-aid over it, and it should be gone in a week.

Because of the location of the wart, a band-aid was not an option. I decided to be sneaky, and smear the paste on while the victim was sleeping, hoping it would work it’s magic without the band-aid.

I did it because we didn’t really have another good, pain-free option. Like I said, I really didn’t think it would work. But within a few days, that wart began to shrink. We’re been at it for about three weeks, and I think it’s taking longer because of not using a bandaid. Now, it’s almost gone. We can barely see the wart.

No trauma, no pain, completely natural. I love it. It almost makes me wish I could get a wart, just because it’s such a fun, victorious feeling to see it go away.

I have great plans for my apple cider vinegar. There are so many ways you can use it. You can cook with it, clean with it, and use it on and in your body in many wonderful, healthy ways, some of which are listed here.

One day as I was drinking my concoction (which tastes gross, I should add), my mom said, “Grandma used to drink it all the time.” Weirdly enough, I now think of Grandma every time I use apple cider vinegar. Sometimes, those old fashioned remedies can work the best!

So, have you ever tried apple cider vinegar?
