We went for a little family canoe ride this weekend.
Anika spent some time canoeing this summer when she was a camper, and surprised us today with her paddle skills.
Kaylia surprised us with her eagerness to get into the water. She kept lunging over the side of the canoe, trying to get her hands into the water.
When she got tired of that, she decided to join Anika in the front seat.
When we got back, Kaylia said the canoe ride had been “gweat”, and then she said, “It’s good to be back.”

My other favorite family time this weekend was going for a walk. While we were walking, there was a loud flapping sound in the trees, and Anika excitedly said that she heard a prairie chicken. For the rest of our walk, Kaylia kept asking about it, and calling it the “fairy chicken”, “berry chicken”, and “blueberry chicken”.
I feel like last weekend was summer, and this weekend was fall. Very dramatic switch. But both were nice, in different ways!
Wishing you a “gweat” week. Maybe you’ll get lucky and see a fairy chicken, too….
I enjoyed your blog very much. You are a great writer. I am a pastor of a small church in Maine and I actually thought I could read your post as a sermon. Cute kids too…God Bless and keep up the good work.
